Guns don't kill people ....

There was a shooting in Los Angeles.  Not really news, right?

Except the person shooting was a cop.

The victim in this case was an unarmed male who was trying to assist a neighbor who was recently stabbed.

The male was a production assistant for a TV show.

*sighs*

What's the first thing we hear about from the second amendment folks: "If he only had a gun to defend himself, then maybe this wouldn't have happened."

The problem is that we have a trained person.  Who is authorized to use deadly force.  Who makes these kind of decisions on a daily basis (especially when living in Los Angeles).

The officer got it wrong.

The result of that mistake is now the death of another human being.

My point?

Even the good guys who are trained to handle weapons, trained to make good decisions, trained to evaluate potentially harmful situations ... even those people get it wrong.

So while Johnny 6-pack and the loaded gun rack thinks he can safely evaluate situations, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Johnny has absolutely no more sense than the professionally trained law enforcement agent .... and yet we're all supposed to believe that by adding more guns to an equation - it's going to make it safer for everyone.

That's just crazy.
